
- Plastic powder or granules forced via a screw thread through a heater and into mould;
- Mould is warmed before injecting, and injection is fast, so plastic doesn’t harden before the mould is full;
- Widely used, especially in manufacture of electronic product casing;
- Advantages:
- Pressure maintained for a short time to prevent the material creeping back when setting, preventing shrinkage and hollows – gives a better finish;
- High production rates possible;
- Consistent quality achieved;
- Accurate dimensions are achieved.
- Disadvantages:
- High cost to set up moulds and machinery;
- Not good for short runs.
